Black Leather; the perfect trend for Autumn/Winter 2012

Posted on 02 September 2012 by Fran

Coming back in to fashion favour, black leather is the perfect trend for Autumn/Winter 2012; think classy, cool and edgy. Dress glamourously gothic for the colder months and combine rich and warm autumnal colours, like burgundy and plum, with glossy black leather. Catwalks have been packed full of it, in all different shades and from high sheen to soft buttery textures, including designs from Richard Nicoll, Dior and Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen. As fashion always does, filtered down in to the high street stores we know and love, you can find some fabulous faux leather skirts and jackets, including many pieces reflecting a new trend for mixing fabrics. Slouchy, casual knits and military style jackets are given skinny leather sleeves, and leather jackets are embellished with fur trims and linings: leather really is taken to another level this season. Also, look out for leather dresses, a deliberate step away from what we’ve previously been limited to with just jackets and separates. To master this look, take a peek at these gems:

One of the most challenging trends to wear this season is the black leather leggings (or skin tight leather jeans if you can find a good pair); you may be under the illusion that it won’t look flattering on you because you’ve been told time and time again what this shape can wear, what this shape can’t and so on and so on, but contemporary fashion is all about trying something new, re-inventing the classic, re-working it to suit you and feeling confident about how you’re wearing it so be positive and at least give it a go. After all, if you don’t feel good, you won’t look good.
Happy leather adventures!
